How to Care for Fine Art Photography Prints

Displaying and protecting a fine art photography print comes down to controlling light, environment, handling, and presentation. Keep prints out of direct sunlight and away from strong artificial UV sources, as prolonged exposure can cause fading—even with UV-protective glazing. Hang artwork in a stable environment with moderate temperature and humidity, avoiding areas like bathrooms, kitchens, or above fireplaces where heat and moisture fluctuate.

Choose archival materials—acid-free mounts, professional framing, and UV-filtering acrylic or glass—to protect the print while allowing it to be enjoyed. Handle artwork only by the edges and with clean hands (or cotton gloves), and avoid touching the image surface. When properly framed, thoughtfully placed, and cared for, a fine art photography print can be enjoyed for generations while maintaining its integrity and visual impact.

How do I clean my Luxe Print with TruLife Acrylic?

TruLife acrylic cleans easily, just like glass. You don't need special acrylic cleaners. Here are some simple cleaning tips to follow:
• Spot-clean with a dry lint-free or microfiber cloth by wiping in a soft, circular motion.
• When needed, use a non-ammonia glass cleaner or make a cleaning solution with 1 part water / 1 part isopropyl alcohol. Apply the cleaner to the cloth, then wipe.
• DO NOT use an acrylic cleaner or polishing agent. DO NOT try to hand-polish or buff scratches in this product, as it may cause damage to the coating.

How do I clean my Giclée canvas print?

To clean a Giclée canvas print, gently dust the surface using a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a clean, dry artist’s brush. Lightly wipe or brush in one direction without applying pressure. Do not use water, cleaning sprays, solvents, or compressed air, as moisture and chemicals can damage the canvas surface and inks. If the canvas becomes stained or heavily soiled, consult a professional framer or conservator rather than attempting to clean it yourself.

How do I clean the Linen Liner?

The safest way to clean a linen liner is to gently remove dust using a rechargeable electric air duster or compressed air. An electric air duster is preferred, as canned air can sometimes release refrigerant that may damage the artwork. For more stubborn dust, you can carefully dab a small piece of painter’s tape or Scotch tape onto the linen to lift the particles away. Use very light pressure and work slowly to avoid damaging the fabric.

How should I care for my picture frame?

Roma® recommends using a soft, lint-free cloth that is free of dyes or chemicals. Slightly dampen the cloth with water, and avoid harsh or abrasive cleansers. Roma® does not recommend applying any conditioner or chemical to your Roma frames. Simply dusting the frame and cleaning it with a clean, damp cloth should help keep your frames looking great.

Remember that Roma® frames are made from wood and other natural materials, which can be affected by age, exposure to sun, heat, cold and humidity. It’s a good idea to take those factors into consideration when placing your frame in your home or in temporary storage.
