While on a multi-day river trip down the lower canyon of the San Juan River in Utah we had stopped to camp at the mouth of Slickhorn Canyon. Shortly before sunset, I had set out on my own to explore Slickhorn in search of a reflecting pool. A gentle breeze moved through the canyon as I hiked along the streambed. There was a gentle rain falling as the sun broke out under the clouds and begin to illuminate the canyon walls towering above me. As this happened, a rainbow began to appear above the golden cliffs radiating warm light of sunset juxtaposed against the cold dark skies of the clearing storm. There I stood, alone, in the middle of a red rock wilderness, overwhelmed by the sheer scale and beauty of the landscape I was immersed in.
