A gorgeous waterfall in the towering narrows of Matkatamiba Canyon. This side canyon is a short hike from river mile 148.4 on the Colorado River within Grand Canyon National Park.
An amusing anecdote about this photo…I was setting up my shot with the camera on the tripod when the water flowing through the creek began to slow down, and within a minute it was nothing more than a trickle. As I was almost done getting things set up when I heard a bunch of guys upstream of me somewhere “whooping and hollering” and then I heard the water coming. It turns out that they were using their bodies to collectively damn the creek and didn’t think about the people that might be downstream of them. Before I could realize what was about to happen, a wall of water came rushing down this cascade slamming into me and my camera. It knocked me off my feet and sent the camera tumbling over into the rocks. All in all, it was just another day as a nature photographer.
