Painted in the rare Esplanade Polychrome style—also known as Grand Canyon Polychrome—this panel is one of fewer than 30 known sites in the canyon made in this style. Believed to have originated during the Archaic period (circa 8,000 B.C.E. to 1,000 B.C.E.), the pictographs were created with red and white pigments and depict figures that may have held ceremonial or shamanic significance. Though the exact age of the site remains debated, the enduring presence of these images speaks to the profound and sacred connection between Native peoples and the Grand Canyon.
